The 1970 Northern Electric 2236QAS is a green, touch-tone payphone manufactured by Northern Electric for public telephone service in Canada.

Unlike rotary-dial payphones, this model uses push buttons to dial telephone numbers. Its green finish and touch-tone keypad distinguish it from other Northern Electric payphone models of the period.

This example documents the development of Canadian public telephone equipment during the transition from rotary dialing to touch-tone technology.

This 1970 Northern Electric 2236QAS green touch-tone payphone has been sold to another telephone collector.
