The 1971 Northern Electric 203QAS is a Canadian non-dial payphone manufactured by Northern Electric. Unlike conventional dial telephones, it has no rotary dial or push-button keypad for entering telephone numbers. Non-dial payphones were part of the public telephone system, where calls could be placed with operator assistance. This example represents the style of coin-operated telephone equipment used in Canada during the early 1970s.
