The “Doral Phone” is a rotary telephone made by ITT in 1974. (International Telephone and Telegraph)
It was never officially called the Doral, it picked up the name after being featured in a 1974 Doral cigarette advertisement.
The phone stands out for its clear, see-through casing, which gave it a futuristic look for the time.
The Doral model is especially popular because of its unusual style and its tie to advertising history.
This unique design has made it a favourite among collectors today.
Doral is a cigarette brand introduced in 1969 by R.J. Reynolds in the USA.
Price Then and Now
In 1974, the phone sold for $69.99 USD. Adjusted for inflation, that equals about $458.62 USD (or $633.79 CAD) in August 2025.
I picked up this 1974 ITT “Doral” phone that came to me in rough shape, with a broken hookswitch. After repairing the switch, cleaning the cords and parts as best as possible, and rewiring it, the phone is now fully functional again, just like it was back in 1974.
